Non-renewal to local public radio station

If you're a member of your local Public Radio station and they carry NPR programming, write them a short note.  Since so few people will be writing this particular letter, you can borrow from it liberally.  If you're not a member or wish to retain your existing membership, adapt the letter as you see fit.

Subject: Guilt-free listening

Dear <<radio station's call letters (e.g. KXYZ)>>,
On the heels of your most recent pledge drive, I received an invitation to renew my membership to <<radio station>>. I love the station and have renewed my membership many times in the past and have even manned phones in two pledge drives. I am happy to say that I will continue to enjoy <<radio stations>>'s offerings with a clear conscience, but not for reasons you might expect.

I will not be renewing my membership to <<radio station>> this year as I find NPR's typically excellent programming, so prevalent on <<radio station>>, to be biased in a way that ultimately has a serious negative impact on the health and human rights of children and adults. I cannot give to <<radio station>> knowing that my money will ultimately fund such a network.

Despite repeated requests, NPR will not touch in any meaningful way on the harms of male genital cutting or "circumcision." Within the last five years this subject has become quite controversial in much of the United States with rates falling to 56% nationwide and to only 35% in the western states. The subject of circumcision involves issues of culture, society, health, sexuality, and human rights and has moral and ethical implications. As a long-time listener, I can tell you that this subject is custom-made for NPR - if only they would cover it.

I know you do not speak for NPR, but you can speak to them. Ask them to give serious airtime to a story on the forced circumcision of children and to involve the groups Doctors Opposing Circumcision (DOC), National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers (NOCIRC), and Attorneys for the Rights of the child (ARC) in their interviews.

Yours,
